Onam feast served for monkeys at Sasthamkotta temple
Sasthamkotta (Kollam): Monkeys at the Dharmasastha temple here were fed ‘Onasadya’ (feast on Uthradam and Thiruvonam). It has been a very old tradition in the temple to feed the monkeys during Onam. The feast is served at the monkey feeding centre near the temple.
Delicacies including ranging from Pachadi and Payasam were served for the feast. Once the feast was served on the banana leaves, the monkeys started arriving in groups. The leader of the gang first tasted the feast and then everyone rushed to have it. Some of them even carried babies on thier back.
Some of the monkeys were seen making a mess with the banana leaves and feast while some others silently enjoyed the delicacies. The monkey feast on Uthradam day was sponsored by Manakkara native M.V. Aravindakshan Nair and the feast on Thiruvonam day was sponsored by NRI Balachandran Pillai.
