One major confusion that arises when we take a car or any other large vehicle to the fuelling station is regarding which side of the vehicle the fuel cap is.

This happens even if it is a vehicle that one uses regularly. So it is obvious how things will be if a person is using someone else’s vehicle.

But the position of the fuel cap can be understood in four wheelers by checking the metre console. The arrow mark given near the fuel tank indicator in the metre console indicates the position of the fuel cap.

If the arrow mark points to the left, it means that the fuel cap is on the left side of the vehicle. Similarly, if the arrow points to the right, the fuel cap is on the right side of the vehicle.

This system has been designed by the vehicle manufacturers in order to avoid any confusion regarding the position of the fuel cap in heavy motor vehicles. Once fuel is filled, the driver should start the vehicle only after making sure that the cap is properly closed, the Motor Vehicle Department said in a Facebook post.
