Nun portrays social issues on canvas, holds art exhibition to create awareness
Kozhikode: Sister Sandra Sonia has proved that nunhood cannot prevent her from portraying the atrocities against women in the society and the environmental impact of human interventions. She has painted 33 pictures and has organised an art exhibition at the Lalit Kala Akademi here.
Sister Sandra said that her paintings are based on the theme that life begins from water. So, the social issues are symbolised by fish. She has expressed her concern over victimizing women in social issues such as citizenship act, Sabarimala women entry, rape cases and controversies in Christian churches.
Hailing from Cherupuzha of Kannur, Sister Sandra Sonia is a member of the St. Philip Neri congregation at Puthuppadi near Thamarassery. Her painting exhibition will conclude on February 2.
