Not just classes, arts festivals are also online now
Kozhikode: The COVID pandemic and the subsequent lockdown caused severe losses to people across all sectors. For college students, apart from missing out on their examinations and classes, they missed their send-offs and arts festivals which would have been a big part of their college memories. However, Payyannur native Sreenath Gopinathan has gained recognition by making these art festivals online. The first social media arts festival in the state was conducted via WhatsApp.
12 colleges have already taken part in the arts festival already. The festival was hosted through different WhatsApp groups. The judges were experts and eminent personalities like Dr. Nikitha Hari, a Cambridge University PhD holder, Supreme Court advocate Shubhangri Nasa, famous dancer Dr Swathy P Bharadwaj. State award winner for best dubbing artist Sneha Paliyeri, film directors Nisam Basheer, Manu Ashokan, Jibu Jacob, MC Joseph were also part of the panel.
The competitions start by 10 am. The topic will be handed out 15 minutes prior to the competition. The performance will have to be captured on a mobile phone and submitted via WhatsApp within three hours. There are separate WhatsApp groups for different competition items. The link of this video, which will be uploaded on Google Drive, shall be sent to the judges. The judges for each competition have a different WhatsApp group. The result of the competition will be determined after expert evaluation in case an appeal is raised.
Sreenath has been supervising everything from fixing the schedule for each competition to creating WhatsApp group for the judges. He is the former convener of Engineering Students’s Union called Technos.
