No salary or approval for Veena even after 4 years of service as sweeper
Alappuzha: It has been four years since Veena S Prabhu joined the Thuravoor TD School as a sweeper. However, she has not received any salary so far and her appointment is yet to be approved.
Veena fights extreme poverty every day with her two children. Most days, she does not add sugar in milk given to her children. That is because she cannot afford sugar. Veena’s husband Pradeep Kammath’s eyes teared up when he finished saying this.
Pradeep and wife Veena reside near Thuravoor in Thirumala along with their children. Veena got her job in Thuravoor TD School for the position of a sweeper in September 2016. As the appointment was after the tenure of Thirumala Devaswom Corporate Manager and since the date of appointment was not mentioned in the letter, the Public Education Department did not approve the appointment.
Pradeep visited so many government offices for the approval of Veena’s post. Later, the manager approached the High Court and secured a favourable ruling. The Under Secretary of Public Education department ruled that Veena’s appointment can be approved.
However, soon there was an instruction that the applications for appointment can only be submitted via an online app called ‘Samanuaya’. Although, Veena filed all the details via the app again, it turned out to be futile as the app was offline. Manager H Premkumar stated that the appointment of four others have also not been approved since Veena’s appointment is pending.
The family is living in a rented house. They haven’t been able to pay rent after the lockdown started. They are surviving with the help of relatives, friends and locals.
Their children are one and four years old. Pradeep lost his job in the marketing department of a private channel after he took leave on several occasions to look after the children. The family said that they can survive only if Veena’s job is approved and her accumulated salary is released soon.
