Nine monkeys die at Panthalloor after eating pesticide-contaminated vegetables from farm
Panthalloor: The carcasses of nine monkeys were found at Keezhkothagiri near Panthalloor in Malappuram district on Thursday. It is assumed that monkeys died after eating vegetables from the farm which were sprayed with chemicals and pesticides. In the post-mortem, it was found that monkeys had eaten broccoli and lettuce produced at the farm using pesticides in large quantity.
Four infants which were also affected with the chemicals are under treatment of the forest department.
It was Amman Nagar natives who informed the mass death of monkeys to the forest officials. Following that senior officials reached the spot and ordered post mortem.
It is also suspected that they were killed by poisoning for destroying cultivations.
