Feroke (Kozhikode): The archaeological department found musket balls and gun flints during an excavation at the Tipu Fort here. Six musket balls and parts of weapons made in iron and lead were found from the southern area of the underground chamber in the fort.
The musket balls are made in lead and are of different sizes. Also they are very heavy. The gun flints were used to make sparks in the flintlock guns during yesteryears. Portions of such flints also were traced from the fort. Some other collections of archaeological objects also was found here.
This underground chamber could be the area where the weapon factory of Tipu Sultan was located, said K Krishnaraj, an official of Kozhikode Pazhassi Raja Museum. The cleaning of a giant well in the fort was completed on Tuesday. The well is the major attraction at the fort.
