Monkey troops rule Walayar border during lockdown
Walayar (Palakkad): The Walayar border which was deserted following the nation-wide lockdown was totally conquered by a troop of monkeys on Wednesday. As there were no vehicles plying on the national highway, the monkeys kept running across the road and stealing vegetables from parked vehicles.
The troop of monkeys arrived from the forest region near the barricade set up by Kerala police to stop vehicles in Walayar border. At first, they hesitated for a second to step down to the road. But after finding no running vehicles, the troop including more than 25 monkeys took charge of the scene.
A vegetable lorry that was bringing vegetables from Karnataka to Aluva was parked on the roadside after its tyre punctured. The monkeys jumped on it and started taking the vegetables safely filled in sacks.
After having a feast on tomatoes, ivy gourds and other vegetables, they also spent some time playing on the road. Even though the police officials were present at the scene, the monkeys paid no attention to them. The troop went back to the forest only by the evening.
