Monkey stays on rooftop for 11 days, finally sent back to forest
Thodupuzha (Idukki): A monkey that has been staying on top of a doctor’s house for 11 days was caught and later released to the forest.
The male monkey stayed on the terrace and kept destroying the crops in the house of Mangattukavala native Dr. Reji P. Kurien. The forest department staff said that the monkey is about 12 years old.
Reji and family are staying in Muscat and had entrusted Thommankuthu native Joy to look after the house in their absence. Joy spotted the monkey on top of the house on August 23.
Though he ignored the monkey in the beginning, it started destroying the crops in the compound frequently. Thus Joy started giving fruits and bread to the monkey so that it may stop damaging the crops.
However, it had no intention to stop destroying the plants. Joy informed the police and they called the forest officers. They set up a cage to trap the monkey.
But it managed to escape from the cage twice. Finally, the monkey was trapped on Monday. Later, the officers released it to the Kulamavu forest.
