Migrant worker flees to Kolkata on borrowed cycle
Cherppu: Amid the lockdown restrictions, a migrant worker travelled to Kolkata on a borrowed bicycle from here in Thrissur. According to reports, he reached Hyderabad on Monday.
The man is identified as Mafippul (20) who was residing at Pazhuvil here. On March 9, he borrowed the bicycle from a Malayali at Muthulliyal.
Mafippul who was engaged in mason work lost his job amid lockdown. Following this, he was working at a paddy field in Cherppu along with his brother.
As he vanished with the bicycle, his brother paid Rs 7000 to its owner.
It is reported that Mafippul continued his journey with the cycle by taking a lift on vehicles carrying vegetables.
When he reached Hyderabad, he informed the matter to his brother. Through him, the natives here came to know about the migrant worker’s adventurous ride amid lockdown.
At the same time, Maffippul’s trip on cycle disturbed other migrant workers at Pazhuvil. It is reported that as many as 12 workers also prepared to leave for Kolkata as inspired by Maffippul’s trip. But later, they abandoned the plan.
