Migrant labourer gets on top of jeep mistaking driver's command
Parakkadavu: When language became a barrier, a migrant labourer had a fun ride on top of a jeep here the other day. The labourer had arrived to board the jeep that conduct service on the Parakkadavu-Nadapuram route. But he mistook the driver’s instruction in Malayalam and went for an adventure ride.
The man was going from his dwelling place at Parakkadavu to his workplace in Nadapuram. When he reached the jeep stand, there was no place to sit due to heavy rush of passengers. As he told the driver that there is no seat available, the driver asked him to stand behind the backdoor.
The Hindi-speaking labourer who does not understand Malayalam mistook the driver’s instruction and got on top of the vehicle’s roof. As similar ‘rooftop rides’ in vehicles are common in his native place, he did not feel anything strange about it.
The driver also did not notice the man sitting on top of the jeep. Many people on the roadside were watching the man’s ride curiously, but the driver did not suspect anything. Finally, he spotted the man only after the vehicle reached Nadapuram. The driver came to know about the reason for the adventure ride only after inquiring the man.
