Meet these doctors who cured COVID-19 patients in Pathanamthitta
Pathanamthitta: A disease should be treated not only physically but mentally also. Dr Sarath Thomas Roy, Dr Nasleem A Salam and Dr Jayashree of Pathanamthitta General Hospital have proved this to be absolutely true. They treated the Ranni-based family who came from Italy and their relatives, the first coronavirus positive patients in the district, ever since they were admitted in the isolation ward.
The doctors also remembered they were tensed when they caught cold during the treatment. 'As we met all officers from district collector at that time, we were tensed a lot. Finally, we were relieved only after the results were negative,' said Dr Sarath Thomas Roy.
Dr Nasleem A Salam said that the patients could not believe the test results after being admitted in the hospital and they were totally desperate. Dr Jayashree also said that they kept asking why the results are not negative when samples are collected frequently. The patients were given counselling to recover from the mental breakdown.
Reading and exercise
The patients were given books and magazines to read and offered some exercises in isolation. The son was more interested in reading books while his parents wanted Bible and newspaper. They were also given spectacles to read the Bible. Malayalam dailies also were offered to them every day.
As three of the patients were diabetic, their diet was very strict. They were given black tea at 7 in the morning and breakfast like idli, dosa or chapati at 8.30. Lime juice was offered at 11 and lunch served at 1.30 pm. Tea with biscuit was given at 4 in the evening and chapati at 7.30 pm as dinner. Also they were given plenty of water to drink.
