Meet the nun who drives a school bus
Kalady: The natives of Kalady were surprised when they saw a nun in the driver seat of a school bus. But later, they started to admire her as a star. Sr Finsita, principal of St. Clare Oral Higher Secondary School for the deaf is the nun who has become a celebrity in Kalady with her
“Years ago, when I took the school bus from the school at Manickamangalam to Angamaly via Kalady, police officials at Kalady police station were curiously looking at me,” recollected Sr Finsita.
Sr Finsita is the first nun in the Franciscan Clarist congregation to obtain a heavy vehicle driving license.
Following the COVID-19 outbreak, the school bus service was cancelled and the vehicle was shifted to the shed. As the service of the driver was not available, Sr Finsita has been driving the school bus on the school yard once a day.
Sr Finsita joined the Franscian Clarist congregation at the age of 18. She started to learn driving as directed by Sr Infant Treesa, sister of former Chief Minister AK Antony and mother superior of Franciscan Clarist Congregation.
In 1994, she successfully passed the driving test and obtained the licence. In 2000, she got the heavy vehicle driving licence.
Sr Finsita, who holds MA and M.Ed was appointed headmistress of the school for the deaf which was established at Manickamangalam in 1993. She has been taking online classes for the students as the school remains closed due to COVID-19 outbreak.
She also coordinates the making of the crown and bouquet for the holy communion of kids.
She used to take students for school youth festivals. Amid the COVID crisis, this nun has been guarding the school and the school bus.
