Meet Kurumbi, a Kerala cow that eats non-vegetarian food
Kottayam: A cow named Kurumbi, owned by Rajesh Pallath, a native of Urulikunnam in Kottayam, has a peculiar appetite. The cow eats vegetarian food, but very fond of non-vegetarian items.
Whether it is meat or fish, Kurumbi enjoys eating, if cooked. In seconds, she empties plates and uncooked eggs are a weakness for her. Rajesh’s children, Adraja and Alok, often feed this cow that belongs to Holstein Friesians breed.
Interestingly Kingini, another cow at house, is a pure vegetarian. When Kurumbi eats non-vegetarian food, Kingini stares at her. Rajesh bought Kurumbi one year ago and she is six-month pregnant now.
According to Dr. Binu Gopinath, a senior veterinary surgeon, there will not be any health complications if cows eat non-vegetarian food. “In some cattle feed, powdered salt-less fish and meat have been used as is not a problem.”
