Man locks house and leaves abandoning father on doorstep; Police intervene
As the world celebrated the International Day for Older Persons on October 1, a man abandoned his father at his sibling's house here in Varapuzha. Showing pity on the elderly man who was in distress, the neighbours informed the police. They learnt that the younger son had gone out of the house after locking it.
Seeing the elderly man, the younger son and his wife refused to open the door of the house. Food was served to him outside. Later, they locked the house and left. When the eldery man gave up the slightest hope that his children would return, his heart sank.
Subsequently, the neighbors informed the Varapuzha police. When police arrived, the old man narrated the whole incident. His eldest son was residing in a rented house. The eldest had told his father that he had difficulty in accomodating him. So within no time, he dumped him at the younger son’s house.The elder man is survived by two sons and two daughters. He told police that they were not in a position to look after him. Police tried to contact their children on phone but to no avail. Later they moved him to a nearby house.
In the evening, the police could establish contact with the eldest daughter. The police said that his daughter was reluctant to take him back. Varapuzha SI Shibu assured that they would call all his children to the police station and would finally reach a settlement.
The elder man was working in a Pharmaceutical Company. He owns four cents of land and a house near Edappally town. He was living with his wife 9 years ago. After his wife departed, he moved to his children's home. He has been staying ever since in different houses of the children. Trouble broke out amongst the siblings as all of them had inconvenience to accommodate him.
