Man impersonates as Kummanam’s staff, stays in hotel at police expense and then absconds
Thrissur: Police have begun investigation into the incident where a man impersonated as former personal assistant of BJP leader Kummanam Rajashekaran and stayed in a hotel at the expense of police for 3 days and later went underground.
The impersonator stayed at a hotel near the Thrissur KSRTC bus stand which was arranged by Thrissur police on the recommendation of an higher police official from another district. The Thrissur police were told to arrange accommodation to this man as he had his purse stolen when he reached Thrissur. The man stayed as a VIP and even directed one of the policeman to reach the hotel. When the policeman asked him if he plans to check out from the hotel, the impersonator told him that very soon he would get into the staff of MP Suresh Gopi and would be present for a few more days till his work gets over. The policeman left immediately.
The impersonator locked the room and left the hotel without informing anybody and was not seen even after a week. On coming to know about this, the hotel authorities informed the police and said that as the room was booked by the police, they were waiting for the man to return. When the room was opened and searched, police could not recover any clue and that was when then realised they were taken for a ride.
The police also made a discreet probe with the district BJP leaders to make sure if they have been cheated and came to know that Kummanam Rajashekaran did not have a PA in this name.
Police got information that the man was a former leader of Yuva Morcha in Kollam and was into cheating on similar lines in many districts. The phone number used by the man is switched off.
