Man gets stuck on 70-ft-tall teak tree for 2.5 hrs; rescued later by fire force
Chengannur (Alappuzha): The Fire Force rescued a man who got stuck on top of a 70-feet-tall teak tree for about 2.5 hours. The man identified as Kallissery Umayattukara native Jomon (45) works as a woodcutter and was trapped on the tree while cutting its branches.
The incident took place in Kallissery on Wednesday at 10 am. Jomon was cutting the branches of a teak tree on the compound of Charlie Abraham, the president of Umayattukara Cooperative Bank.
"I felt having a blackout. My body weakened and felt my mouth getting parched. Then I held tightly around the tree and sat there still," Jomon said.
As he could not get down the tree, the people informed the fire force. Assistant station officer M K Sambhu Namboothiri and team arrived from Chengannur. They climbed on the tree and managed to rescue Jomon using net and rope after hours of long effort.
Later, Jomon was rushed to a private hospital in Thiruvalla. Senior fire and rescue officer N Lalkumar, fire and rescue officers K V Mahesh Kumar, R Shefeeq and R Ratheesh were in the team that rescued Jomon adventurously.
