Man dangling upside down on coconut tree gets rescued by fire force
Perambra: A coconut climber here had a narrow escape after he got stuck on a coconut tree dangling upside down from the climbing machine. Fire Force personnel led by station officer Jafar Sadique rescued the man after an hour-long operation.
Raghunath (49), the coconut climber got stuck while climbing the tree using the machine. The incident took place on the land in front of Yuvadhara library on Paithothu road at Koothali panchayat around 8.45 am on Saturday.
Raghunath was rescued after hanging upside down for more than an hour. He met with the accident while trying to pull down a coconut leaf which had fallen on a power line. When Raghunath tried to pull it with both hands, he fell backwards. As his leg was connected to the belt on the machine, he went dangling upside down on the coconut tree.
Raghunathan said that he also suffered electric shock as he tried to grab the coconut leaf while falling from the tree.
A man who noticed Raghunath on the tree took a ladder and prevented him from falling.
Later, the fire and rescue service from Perambra rushed to the spot. Fire officers KM Shiju and IB Ragin climbed on the tree using a ladder. After cutting the belt where Raghunath's leg was trapped, the fire force rescued him using a net.
Around 10 am, Raghunath was taken to Perambra taluk hospital. The doctor stated that he only suffered a minor injury on the leg.
