Pavaratty (Thrissur): Age is only a number for Gowri who makes beautiful doormats using waste clothes even at 77. She has been manually sewing the cloth pieces together to form the doormats.
Wife of Padoor native late Pushpakaran, Gowri started making doormats to get distracted from age related ailments. She collects waste cloth pieces from tailors and then twist the pieces into the shape of a rope. Then the ropes are sewed onto another cloth. It takes about one week to make one doormat.
Gowri gives the doormats to her relatives and neighbours. Earlier, she used to sew nets for about 30 years. This experience also helped her in the new hobby. She also makes blankets using different cloth pieces. When people normally choose to stay idle in the old age, this granny took a different step by developing a new hobby.
