Love peanuts….think twice before taking next bite
Wayanad: Most of the people love peanuts as a healthy snack. But we must be careful before purchasing peanuts from streets shops. On Tuesday, the municipal health department has taken action against five roadside shops at Sulthan Bathery here.
The health officials seized 25 kg of mouldy peanuts from these shop. They will be slapped a fine for selling peanuts in unhygienic conditions.
Photographs revealing preparation of roasted peanuts under unhygienic conditions was largely circulated on social media from Tuesday morning. Following this, the municipal health department initiated an inspection at the shops.
A photo featured a migrant labourer drying up peanuts on the land in front of a quarters near Federal Bank in Chulliyod road. The place was too unhygienic as it was exposed to drainage water and close to a garbage pile. The inspection of the health department also revealed shocking reports on peanut selling shops.
Municipal health inspector KT Thulaseedharan and his team carried out the inspection. The quarters owner was also fined for disposing waste on public place.
The public demanded strict action against such unhygienic preparation of food products as contagious diseases like cholera is being spread across the state.
Sulthan Bathery municipal chariman TL Babu stated that strict action will be taken against the shopkeepers who produce and sell food products under unhygienic situations.
