Lone survivor of family waiting for his parents, siblings from under debris in Kavalappara
Nilambur: Even after four days of the Kavalappara landslide tragedy, Jishnu is unable to go back to the valley. But he is still waiting for some news from there. His entire family, including parents and siblings, is still under the debris of the disaster. As he cannot witness them being taken out by the excavator, he is waiting a little far for seeing them one last time.
Jishnu’s father Vijayan, mother Visweswari, elder brother Vishnu who works in army and younger sister Jishna who is a degree student were trapped under the debris in the massive landslide in Kavalappara in Nilambur of Malappuram. Jishna’s marriage was almost fixed.
Jishnu could survive the disaster as he had gone to help people shift from waterlogged houses nearby on the day of the tragedy. Jishnu and relative Hareesh were about to return home in the evening. But as they found the canal on the way overflowing, they decided to stay at a relative’s house on the other side of Kavalappara.
23-year-old Jishnu is an industrial worker. Vijayan’s two brothers and families also were residing at their house fearing flooding. All of them were affected in the landslide.
There is another one in the same place, who lost the entire family in the tragedy. Sreeraj, a hotel management student, lost his father Sivan, mother Raji, brother Shyam and sister Sreelakshmi to the landslide. Sivan’s father Sankaran and Raji’s mother Alexa Immanuel also were trapped under debris. As Sreeraj was not at home at the time of the landslide, he survived.
