Lion-tailed macaques arrive in troops to visit tourist spots in Nelliampathi
Nelliampathi (Palakkad): With the onset of winter, troops of lion-tailed macaques have conquered the paths leading to Nelliampathi. Many lion-tailed macaques are seen in Pothundi-Kaikatti Ghat road which is an extraordinary sight.
Lion-tailed macaques are often spotted in Seetharkund, Kesavanpara, Thuthampara and Karappara areas in Nelliampathi forest region. However, it is very rare to see them in troops. Now lion-tailed macaques are seen in large numbers in the places ranging from Marappalam to Ayyappanthitt.
The forest officers said that the monkeys started arriving in troops as tourists offer them food. The macaques refuse to leave the place and keep roaming around the trees nearby. Though the authorities have banned offering food to wild animals, many tourists give food to them for taking photographs.
