Thrissur: Mathukkara village at Mullasserry here in the district is reeling under water even a week after the flood havoc.
As the roads remained inundated, children are taking a boat ride to their schools. Over 80 students have restarted going to schools after a week-long holiday due to floods.
The villagers are in panic as floodwater still pose threat to them. As the large paddy fields in the village are under water, the people have no idea about the direction of the water flow or the strength of the current.
“We are worried about our children till they return from school,” parents said.
The place remains under 3 feet of water. As a result, 115 families in the village are forced to depend a boat to travel to other places. Only 10 people can travel in this small boat at a time. Because of this, most of the people are not able to go for work.
The families in the village, most of whom are daily wage workers and farmers, are under poverty. As there is no relief camp, food materials are not distributed in the village.
Realizing the dire situation of the village, Vilakattupadam Devasurya Kalavedi and Guruvayur Chamunderswari Residential Association have been supplying essential materials to the people here.
