Kerala woman gives birth onboard London-Kochi Air India flight
Nedumbassery: A seven month pregnant Kerala woman gave birth to a healthy baby onboard Air India flight from London to Kochi. The woman was identified as Maria Philip, a native of Pathanamthitta.
The incident happened in the flight which departed from London on Tuesday night. No sooner than the flight took off, the woman experienced labour pain. The cabin crew members, two doctors and four nurses in the flight aided the woman.
To provide immediate medical care to mother and baby, the flight was landed in the nearby Frankfurt airport. Necessary arrangements were made in the airport as cabin alerted them in advance. Soon after the flight landed, mother and baby were taken to hospital.
The flight left Frankfurt and reached Kochi on Wednesday morning after a six-hour delay. There were 210 onboard and interestingly, the crew was headed by a woman pilot Shoma Sur.
Meanwhile, the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) authorities recognised the prompt and timely intervention of the Air India crew members and pilots who managed the contingency when they landed in Kochi.
