Kerala gives us benefits not available elsewhere, says migrant workers
Kalikavu (Malappuram): Amid fake campaigns against the state government, the migrant workers openly admit that Kerala's policy towards them cannot be compared. They said that even in their native places, food items are not supplied for free during lockdown and disease outbreak.
Kerala ensures food and other essential facilities for the workers considering them as guests. No external help is provided to the migrant workers in neighbouring states like Tamil Nadu.
Mujeeb Rahman, Rakibul Aleem and Akbar Aleem from Assam said that rent and food are taken care of by the government and the only issue is that they cannot send money back home.
Workers from Rajasthan who came for granite and marble works and those from West Bengal, Odisha and Bihar who are working in construction sites also stated that they are satisfied with Kerala's hospitality. Even the honey collectors from Tamil Nadu are offered food from the community kitchen.
Naseebul Aleem from Kolkata said that the campaigns alleging that the workers are trapped here are baseless. They added that the protests staged by migrant workers in some places might not be conducted on their will.
The workers who are residing here with family for many years are provided free ration and treatment in Kerala. Such benefits are not available in other states even if the workers are ready to pay for it, they said.
