Karthika travels in 5 cars from Thrissur to Chavara on hearing father's ill health
Harippad: Karthika, first year BA journalism student at Chetana College of Media and Performing Art in Thrissur, had an adventurous journey to her home in Chavara amid the lockdown over coronavirus. On Tuesday, this girl reached home after travelling in five cars to take her ill father to the hospital.
When she got a call from home revealing her father’s worsening health condition, she wanted to rush back at any cost. Though Karthika contacted many people seeking help to reach home, they were not ready to meet her request in the background of lockdown.
“I need to take my father to hospital. So I was prepared that I will reach home even by walk. I contacted many people. Finally, Youth Congress leader Arun Raj, a native of Kollam, helped me. During my five and a half hours long journey, I travelled in five cars to reach home safe,” said Karthika.
“The khader clad youngsters who were strangers protected me like their own sister,” Karthika said, excited about meeting some people with humanity.
She narrated her experience on receiving help from some unknown people.
“I used to keep a distance from the khader clad people. But now, I respect them a lot,” Karthika wrote on her Facebook page.
The Facebook post of the student, who always supported the left front, led to a discussion on social media.
Karthika who is studying in Thrissur shifted to her friend’s house from the college hostel after the government imposed lockdown. Her father Jayaprakash, an ex-military man is under treatment for liver related ailments. His condition became worse the other day.
Her mother Bindu wanted to take her father to hospital. But Karthika’s younger sister Gouri, a 9th standard student, will be left alone at home as the health officials restricted the family from having a hospital visit with more people. Following this, Karthika was forced to have the adventurous ride back home.
On Monday morning by 9.30, a Youth Congress activist Praveen reached Karthika’s residence as directed by Thrissur district Youth Congress president Janeesh. Praveen took her to Aluva. From here, she travelled in the car of Haseen Khalid, another activist of the party from Ernakulam. At Vytila, another activist named Ganga Shankar was waiting for Karthika and he took her to Cherthala.
Later, Roopesh and Vimal dropped her at Thottappally near Harippad. From here, Youth Congress state secretary Binu Chulliyil and another activist Midhum took her home.
When Karthika reached home, her mother and father left to hospital. As Karthika travelled from Thrissur, health workers directed her to observe two weeks of quarantine.
