In bid to restore greenery, Kallur Balan plants over 1 lakh palm saplings
Palakkad: Kallur Balan and team are engaged in restoring the greenery to nature. They have been collecting the seeds of palm trees and planting them for a long time.
“Nature loves when we nurture seeds rather than planting trees,” Balan shared the lesson learnt from nature.
“If we dig a small pit and put the seeds into it, it will grow slowly. Its roots will prevent soil erosion,” he added.
For Kallur Balan, environmental protection is not limited to World Environmental Day. He has dedicated his life to nature.
He has been carrying seeds on his pick-up van which carries the board ‘tree is a boon’. His helper Rajan Pattambi always accompanies him in the van for collecting and planting the seeds and distributing saplings.
After the lockdown, Rajan also dedicated his time to assist Balan. Seeds of palm trees are largely found in the vehicle. In 2021, the duo distributed 10,000 palm seeds and over 5000 mango seeds. Balan has already planted over 1 lakh palm saplings on the outskirts of Palakkad.
“This time, we are taking palm seeds to Mannuthy Agriculture University and Ahalya campus,” said Balan.
Those who need seeds and saplings can contact Kallur Balan. But it should be planted without failure. This is the only condition made by Balan. He will visit every place to confirm the seeds and saplings distributed by him are nurtured well.
