Hunger, no wage; Tamil Nadu man found eating dirt in Erumeli
Erumeli: A middle-aged man, native of Periyakulam in Tamil Nadu, was seen eating soil by the roadside in Erumeli . When the onlookers inquired details, he revealed that he was starving as he had no money to buy food. Some of the kind souls bought him food.
Guruswamy (53) was found eating soil near the roadside. The shop owners nearby rushed to stop him on seeing it. Later, Erumeli AR Finance Manager Reji bought him food from a shop. He had the food from the roadside itself.
Guruswamy said that he came to Sabarimala 15 days ago, and was working there. But his legs happened to swell in the meantime, and he could not work anymore. Also, he did not get the wages of the works. He reached Erumeli by KSRTC bus with all the money he had. Though he starved literally, he could not beg and had to eat dirt due to hunger.
Later, police force led by Erumeli SI Manoj Mathew arrived at the place and sent him back to his native place by bus. Police, locals and shop keepers in the area collected the money required for the ticket and gave it to Guruswamy.
