Highly decomposed carcass of tusker found in Mangalappatty forest
Mettupalayam: A highly decomposed carcass of a tusker was found inside Mangalappatty forest at Thengumarahada in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu.
The carcass was spotted by forest personnel on Thursday. The pachyderm might have died a month back, according to officials. Kothagiri Ranger Selvam and Sathymangalam Tiger Reserve Veterinary Doctor K Ashokan examined the carcass.
The carcass had only the outer skin and bones left in the remains. The vet said that the elephant, which may be around 16-years-old, might have died due to some illness.
The forest personnel cut off the elephant tusks and dumped the carcass there itself.
