Local people said the phython was hiding inside a hole near a pond

Mannuthy: Forest officials here wound up the hunt for a python at Kalathode near here in Thrissur district after a one-hour-long search at the spot failed to locate the reptile.

The officials reached the spot at 12 noon on information that some had seen a python on an open land between Kalathode and Mukkattukara. Some of them said they found the python hiding inside a cavity near a pond.

The officials searched the pond and nearby areas, but could not find it. One of the members of the team opined that most often the excreta of the python can be seen in the area. Once it swallows a prey, the reptile rests for around a month.

Officials surmise that the python may have reached the pond after the water of Peechi dam was released through the canal.  It has been decided to clear off the shrubs in the area with the help of the local people.
