Giant chessboard attracts visitors to Nilambur
Nilambur: A giant chessboard has become the major attraction in Nilambur these days. The chessboard built in 2012 had featured in the Limca Book of Records in 2013. However, it has made headlines now.
MR Ravi, a native of Chakkalakkuth and former drawing instructor at Government Manavedan HSS here, built this chessboard on wood. Indian rosewood and teak were used for the construction of the board that is 1.25m x 1.25m in size.
The wooden pieces of 0.25 inch thickness were joined together and another plank was fixed to it. The chess pieces were made with help of machines. The ‘king’ is 34.5 cm tall.
