German traveller couple returns to Chennai to get their lost dog
Chennai: The traveller couple from Germany might not have expected that they would find their lost pet dog ‘Luke’ from Chennai Marina Beach. Stephen Kagera and Janin Scharenberg, who travel around the world in a van, lost their pet dog at Marina Beach, during their visit to Chennai 3 months ago. When they got the news that the missing dog was found, the couple informed that they will soon set out to Chennai. They are presently located in Nepal.
The couple were totally worried since Luke went missing, and they even announced a reward for those who would find and return him. They also spread the news widely on social media with the help of volunteers and animal protection activists. Posters with the picture of the dog was pasted in many places in the city.
One of the people who noticed the poster recognized the dog, which was taken to Marina Beach by a boy. The animal protection activist Vijaya Narayanan, who went looking for the dog even after the German couple left the place, identified the dog to be the lost Luke. A microchip fitted on the neck of the dog helped them to identify it.
Stephen and Janin got Luke, the then 20 months old Labrador breed dog, from a roadside in Greece one year ago during their world tour. They took him with them in the rest of their journey. As per their complaint, an auto rickshaw driver took the dog away from near their car at Marina in Chennai.
