From animals to vehicles, Class 11 boy crafts wonders using coconut shells
Kasaragod: For M Abiram of Poodamkallu region near Rajapuram in Kasaragod district of Kerala, coconut shell is an item to manifest his craftsmanship. The class 11 student at Kodoth GHS school developed his interest in craftwork using coconut shells during the second Covid-19 induced lockdown in Kerala. Now, Abiram could craft miniatures of animals, vehicles, and many other items using coconut shells.
Abiram was sparked by the fact that shells of coconut were simply thrown away. These shells were remaining in the premises of the house just like scraps. Imaginations stroke his mind during the monotonous lockdown days and he started to experiment with the coconut shells.
Notably, Abiram has a track record of achievement in subdistrict level school science experiment competition, where he made models using coconut shells. He did it with the help of a senior student named Vipina when he was in class 10. It fetched him A-grade. Even that experience helped Abiram to develop the new skill.
If Abiram gets coconut shells along with items like gum, blade, polishing materials and craft papers, he will make marvellous things within minutes. Some of the items he made using coconut shells are cycle, bullock cart, scooter, motorcycle, autorickshaw, tortoise, rabbit, hen, vase, key chain, sanitizer bottle, cup, hair clip, chain and ring.
