Foreseeing floods, Puthussery natives buy boat for public use
Puthussery Kadavu (Wayanad): Natives of Puthussery Kadavu are commuting in a boat as all the roads in the area were inundated in flood waters. Foreseeing the flood situations in the area, natives bought a boat for their common use.
An engine powered boat is always ready at the Puthussery Kadavu junction for any kind emergency service, to reach people at their houses and more.
In 2018, when this area got cut off from other regions during the flood, a collective forum of expats here bought a boat to connect the region to other places and necessary services. They spent lakhs of rupees to buy this bought.
In the incessant rains that lashed for the last few days, the area got submerged. As the nearby rivers overflowed, Puthussery town was inundated. Many families were shifted to safer places.
As the situation intensified and places like Therthukunnu, Kurumbala and Makkottukunnu got submerged, natives began boat service.
Understanding the situation and need, forest department has arranged a staff and an engine to run the boat.
