For Thrissur Pooram, Ilanji blooms at Vadakkunnathan temple
Thrissur: This time, the fragrance of Ilanji flowers will add more charm to Ilanjithara melam of Thrissur Pooram. Ilanji tree or Mimusops elengi on the compound of Sree Vadakunnathan temple bloomed for the first time here.
The tree was planted here in 2006. After 12 years, the flowers on the tree are spreading fragrance in the Thekkinkkadu Maidan.
This ilanji tree was planted after a giant ilanji tree fell down. Sapling of the ilanji tree was taken from KFRI at Peechi.
Ilanji flowers started blooming here for the last 15 days. Now, it has many flowers and buds.
Thrissurites say that the fragrance of ilanji will give a fresh experience to Thrissur Pooram lovers this time.
On Thrissur Pooram day, Ilanjithara melam under the Ilanji tree will begin at 2 pm here. Percussion maestro Peruvanam Kuttan Marar will lead the Ilajithara melam here.
Over 250 Instrumentalists will perform in the grand ceremonial percussion event of Thrissur Pooram.
