Fishing boat hits shore after captain falls asleep near Beemapally
Thiruvananthapuram: A fishing boat which sailed from Kollam to Colachel area for fishing hit the shore at Beemapally after its captain went asleep during the wee hours on Sunday. The bottom of the boat broke and the crew in the boat sustained minor injuries in the accident.
The crew were admitted to the nearby hospital by locals. The boat that met with the accident is owned by John Britto, a native of Sakthikulangara.
The captain of the vessel fell asleep resulting in losing control of the boat. Fishing instruments and fuel stored in the boat were shifted to shore after the accident. On Monday, the boat will be taken to Kollam.
Marine Enforcement conducted enquiry in the incident and a loss of Rs 30 lakh has been estimated.
