First opposition leader of Thrissur corporation shares memories
Thrissur: The major aim of social work is to do what we can and not expect anything in return. This is the motto of Prof A M Krishnan, the first opposition leader of Thrissur corporation. He is 75 now and still active in social work and is serving as the president of Bhadra Farmers Self Help Group and president of Samridhi Farming Society in Koorkancherry.
The Congress party was the first to rule the corporation. However, it was Krishnan who initiated every discussion.The council meeting lasted till evening on some days. The first Mayor Jose Kattookkaran always paid attention to the opnions of the opposition.
Later, when LDF took over the corporation, Krishnan Master became chairman of PWD standing committee. He initiated tarring of Swaraj Road, replacing old pipes of Peechi drinking water pipeline, constructing subway near Paramekkavu temple and other works.
Krishnan Master had served as teacher in many colleges including Nattika SN college and was also a member of AKPCTA. He was CPM councillor in Thrissur municipality from 1995 to 2000. Then he was elected from Kokkala ward to the first council in Thrissur corporation and became opposition leader. Later, he represented Kannamkulangara ward in 2005.
Currently, Krishnan Master resides in Koorkancherry with his wife Prathibha. Their son Pratheesh is working as an architect abroad and daughter Kripa is a school teacher.
