Mallappalli: From now on, we have to neither throw the biodegradable waste from kitchen to our compound, nor cover them in plastic bags and abandon them along roadside. Kallooppara native Rajasekharan Panicker has found a new method to manage the biodegradable waste in an eco-friendly way.
To try the new method, first we have to put some holes in a large plastic container and then put it inside an even larger flower pot. Attach a rubber tube from the bottom of the flower pot to release the excess water. The other end of the tube can be put inside a bottle. Now add soil around the container put inside the flower pot. We can choose plants that need moisture all the time to grow in this.
Now dump the kitchen waste in the container and close it tightly. Next day, reopen it and add more waste. If there is larger quantity of waste, we can use drum barrels. This zero odour bio-waste processing method has been used for many days, said Rajasekharan Panicker, who was selected as the best farmer of the district.
