Exquisite pink blossoms in Ochira beckon devotees
Ochira: Ettukandam has now turned pink with blooming lotus and water Lily. Seeds that could have got dispersed from the remains of offering, probably left behind by a devotee, have now sprouted converting the whole pond into a beautiful water garden. The blossoming flowers heartily greet the devotees of Parabrahma.
The visitors are attracted by the blooming flowers outside the temple. Devotional songs and the cool breeze carrying fragrance from the pond creates a divine atmosphere of pure bliss. Devotees after the ‘darshan’ sit on the granites steps to relish the pink carpet in the water.
A fence has now been erected around Ettukandam to protect it from the mindless dumping of garbage and wastewater.
During temple festivals, it is common for traders to dump garbage and sewage into the water. Devotees have demanded that this time around, the temple authorities take steps against offenders.
Small refreshment kiosks and other shops are operating near the lake. There are allegations that they dump the vegetable waste. The devotees have demanded the officials to preserve the full bloom flowers.
