Experiment becomes success; Seed Farm grows sunflower field in Kerala
Nadavaramba (Thrissur): The State Seed Farm Nadavaramba unit has successfully proved that sunflower can be grown in Kerala too.
More than 15,000 saplings were planted on 30 cents of plot as an experiment. Though they have sown seeds of sunflowers in two colors, only the yellow variety sprouted and grew.
The natives are all amazed to see the sunflowers full bloomed in their place. Usually sunflower field is a common sight in Tamil Nadu. The passersby, locals and school children keep coming to watch the flowers.
Though sunflower seeds were sown as an experiment this year, the seed farm employees are planning to increase production next year. More seeds can be collected, when the production increases.
