
Venjarammoodu (Thiruvananthapuram): An elephant ran amok after it panicked seeing a horse on the roadside here. Three persons who tried to run to safety when the elephant turned aggressive fell down and sustained injuries. The vehicles which took reverse on seeing the elephant ended up colliding with other vehicles.
The incident occurred on Monday by 8.20 in the morning. The 21-year-old tusker Kannan, owned by Thycaud native Raveendran, panicked after it saw a horse on the state highway. The tusker was being taken to the elephant feeding ceremony at a temple in Ambalamukku. When it came near the horse, the tusker ran amok.
Ambalamukku natives Omana, Santha and George were injured while trying to run away from the scene. A vehicle that took a reverse on seeing the aggressive elephant hit other vehicles behind it. Following the mayhem, vehicles stopped by the state highway for some time.
Venjarammoodu fireforce arranged security measures at the place. When the elephant entered a compound nearby, the mahout tactfully tamed it and chained. Fireforce personnel Nazeer and Rajendran also helped to tame the elephant.
