Kuzhalmannam (Palakkad): Elephant brought for temple festival at Kuzhalmannam attacked the mahout and damaged four vehicles including one belonging to the elephant squad. The animal which created three hours of panic in the area injured its trunk and damaged the boundary wall of a school.
The elephant, named Vadakkumnathan Ganeshan, was brought for Vishu-Vela festival at Kuzhalmannam. The elephant’s chief mahout Raju sustained injury on his leg.
While bringing the elephant for procession around 3 pm on Thursday, the tusker turned awry and attacked the mahout Raju. And soon began to run on the road and damaged a boundary wall, an ice cream vehicle, elephant squad’s traveller van parked by the road and two electric posts. In rage, it continued to run and damaged a car belonging to a devotee. Passengers in the car escaped miraculously before the elephant attacked the car. Dragging the car for 50 meters, the elephant threw the car to the courtyard of a house.
Finally, the mahout who was injured in the attack, chained the elephant with the help of elephant squad.
