Eagle that attacked locals in Mavelikkara taken by forest officials
Mavelikkara: A Rapid Response Team of the forest department came from Ranni to take the eagle that created panic in Kannamangalam village for weeks. The eagle that attacked many locals was finally trapped on Tuesday and was kept in a cage at the house of a panchayat member.
On Wednesday morning, the forest officials arrived to take the caged eagle. They informed that the eagle will be released at Plappally forest by evening. The three-year-old eagle was reared as pet in a household, it is assumed.
Over 20 people were injured by the eagle within two months in the area. Though the locals sought help from police and others, everything was in vain. The forest officials said that they cannot catch an eagle. Following this, the natives initiated to catch the bird.
Local residents Manikuttan Saji, Unnikrishnan and Manoj attracted the eagle using prey. When they caught the eagle, it attacked and injured them. However, Unnikrishnan covered the bird with his dhoti and trapped it finally. People gathered to see the eagle being taken away by the forest officials.
