Doctor protests over potholed road with ‘jetti challenge’ in Thrissur
Thrissur: A doctor at Thrissur Govt. Medical College has come out with a unique challenge on social media to protest over the destruction of road within a few days from tarring. Alleging corruption in the name of PWD minister G Sudhakaran and MLA KV Abdul Khader over the road work, he kicked off a ‘underwear challenge or jetti challenge’ on social media. As the challenge triggered a controversy, the medical college authority sought an explanation from him and he issued an apology later.
Dr CV Krishnakumar, assistant professor of Orthopaedics department, introduced the challenge protesting against the poor condition of Chavakkad-Chettuva road. The doctor delivered a speech to mark his protest by the side of a busy road and threw his underwear on road removing it publicly.
Responding to the controversy over the challenge, Thrissur Govt. Medical College principal Dr MA Andrews informed that Dr Krishnakumar issued an apology after the medical college authority sought an explanation from him.
“The reply from the doctor has been forwarded to the Directorate of Medical Education. Further action will be taken as per the directions of DME,” said the principal.
Talking to Mathrubhumi, Dr Krishnakumar revealed that his bad experience on the damaged Chavakkad-Chettuva road influenced him to observe ‘underwear challenge’.
He posted the video on the WhatsApp group of his friends.
“I have committed a great mistake by raising corruption charges against minister and MLA. I accept that I selected the wrong way to protest. So, I’m ready to face any action,” said Dr Krishnakumar.
