Doctor prescribes liquor with roasted peanuts; excise intervenes
Thiruvananthapuram: A doctor has been put in a spot after he gave a prescription for liquor to a patient. As the matter went viral on social media, the Excise directed the police to charge a case against Dr M D Renjith in Paravoor , Kochi. But the doctor stated that he gave the prescription just for fun.
Dr Renjith, who is an Ayurveda doctor, gave the prescription soon after the chief minister stated that alcohol addicts can be provided liquor if they have a prescription.
The doctor gave the prescription to a 48-year old patient named Purushothaman instructing to consume alcohol with roasted peanuts in the evening for treating alcohol withdrawal syndrome. When the prescription was sent to his friends, it was widely circulated and went viral shortly.
With this, the excise department started investigating into the incident. The doctor said during the interrogation that he gave the prescription as joke only. He added that no such patient visited him and he did not give anyone such a prescription.
