Balussery: It has been suspected that adulterated jaggery was supplied in the Anganwadi at Naduvannur panchayat which is included in the Balussery Additional Project of the Department of Woman and Child Development. Following the suspicion, District Programme Officer T. Afsath directed to temporarily stop using the jaggery in all Anganwadis in the district.
The employees at the Anganwadi noticed the unnatural dark red colour of the jaggery when they were cooking dessert using it. As the dessert turned into dark red colour, they contacted Project Officer N. P. Nandini through Supervisor. She informed the same to the district programme officer.
The food items are supplied to the Anganwadis in Naduvannur panchayat through Koyilandi civil supplies. The district programme officer said that they directed to stop use of jaggery after contacting the collector and the food safety assistant commissioner.
