Conductor license suspended for making students stand in scorching sun delaying entry
Mattannur: Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) suspended the license of a bus conductor for making the students stand in the hot sun denying entry into the bus until its departure. M P Prajith, conductor of Lakshya bus that plies on the Kannur – Iritty route invited the wrath of the officials for the inhumane act when the state was reeling an all-time temperature rise. Thalassery Joint RTO E S Unnikrishnan suspended his license for two months.
Widespread criticism arose when the bus operators made the students stand in the scorching sun on their way for exams the other day. Following that, the MVD officials conducted a patrol in the Mattannur bus stand on Tuesday morning onwards.
Five buses were found denying entry to the students until the last minute before the departure. Recommendation to suspend the licenses of conductors of these buses were given. The inspection was based on the order by M P Subhash Babu, RTO, Traffic Enforcement.
Action was taken against 10 buses for installing air horn, stereo and non operational emergency exits.
As the incident turned controversial, Lakshya bus was taken into custody and there was a demand to issue a show-cause notice. The conductor’s license was suspended after that.
