Kollam: Two coaches of Sampark Kranti Express got detached as the train abruptly stopped soon after it started from Kollam station on Monday morning. The train was travelling from Kochuveli to Chandigarh. Following the incident, train traffic between Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram was disrupted for a long time.
The Sampark Kranti Express reached the second platform of Kollam station on Monday at 10.30 am. At 10.35 am, the train started to depart. Soon, the loco pilot got information that a passenger had not alighted from the train. Upon the information, the loco pilot stopped the train abruptly. As a result, two coaches on the rear end of the train (B-3 and B-4) got detached.
It is learnt that the lapses in coupling caused the incident. By 11.30 am, the express set off from the station after resolving the glitch.
Due to the incident, Kanyakumari Express, Mumbai Express, Netravati Express and Jamnagar Express were late for more than an hour.
