Class V girl dies inside classroom after bitten by snake in Bathery
Sulthan Bathery: A 5th standard girl died of snake bite here on Wednesday. It is reported that she suffered snake bite inside the classroom at Bathery Govt. Sarvajana Vocational Higher Secondary School. The deceased was identified as Shahla Sherin (10), daughter of Adv. Abdul Aseez and Adv. Sajna.
The girl was bitten by the snake which was lying inside a hole on the wall of the classroom. The incident took place around 3.30 pm.
After observing two injury marks on her foot, Shahla informed the matter to her teacher. Following this, her parents took her to a private hospital on receiving information from the school authority.
Unfortunately, the doctors at the hospital failed to confirm snake bite. Later, she was taken to Bathery Taluk hospital. But even after observation, snake bite was not confirmed.
When Shahla started to vomit, Taluk hospital doctor referred her to Kozhikode Medical College. On the way to medical college, she suffered suffocation and was admitted to a private hospital in Chelode. Though snake bite was confirmed, the doctors failed to save her life.
It is alleged that the failure of the doctors to confirm snake bite led to the girl's death.
Shahla’s last rites will be performed on Thursday around 12 pm at Puthankunnu Juma Masjid.
