Class 10 student designs robot that serves tea and snacks to guests
Ernakulam: Those who visit the house of Emil Kurian, a class 10 student at Nirmala Public School in Muvattupuzha, will be welcomed and served tea by a small robot. The robot, named Rabki, was designed by Emil himself.
Rabki, which serves tea and snacks to the guests, is controlled by an Android application. Emil was inspired after watching the video of a robot at actor Maniyanpilla Raju’s hotel on Youtube.
The robot was made using thermocol and other waste materials. The robot, which runs on battery, can handle weight up to 4 kilograms. Although the robot can serve tea and snacks currently, Emil is planning to upgrade it into something that can perform more tasks.
Emil has won several prizes by making a grinder, bluetooth enabled automatic door lock and grass cutter among others. He also designed an automatic sanitizer stand during COVID-19.
Emil’s team took part and won the robotic workshop conducted by Mumbai IIT in Pezhakkappilly school earlier this year. Later they attended the workshop at Mumbai IIT campus and entered the last round. Emil wants to research more in the field and wants to make new inventions.
Emil is the son of Muvattupuzha natives Fr. Eldose Kuriakose and Elizabeth Eldose, an officer at General Merchants Cooperative Bank. He has a sister named Elmi Susan.
